The Seattle Mariners have been struggling as of late, posting a 4-6 record through their last ten games heading into Wednesday afternoon’s match against the Chicago White Sox. There are a few reasons for their struggles, with a heavy injury list being one of them, as the likes of Cal Raleigh, Brendan Donovan, and Victor Robles, among others, are all out for various reasons.

Mariners welcome back Matt Brash

Roster Moves:

Matt Brash, RHP, reinstated from 15-day Injured List (right lat inflammation).
Robinson Ortiz, LHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma (post-game May 19).

However, it appears that the Mariners are set to regain a key piece of their bullpen back, as the team announced that they had reinstated reliever Matt Brash into the roster, after he had spent some time out due to right lat inflammation.

Brash had been on Seattle’s injury report since early May due to the inflammation and would later be sent down to spend time with the organization’s Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, to get some rehab reps in before any further decision was made.

During two games with Tacoma this season, Brash would strike out four batters in 1.2 innings of work.

These numbers are consistent with what the 28-year-old was doing with Seattle prior to his injury, not allowing a single run across 11.1 innings of work in 14 games, striking out eight batters, and allowing two walks. It’s safe to say that Brash has been a key part of the Mariners’ bullpen this season.

In the same breath as their announcement on Brash’s reinstatement, the Mariners stated that they were optioning Robinson Ortiz back to the Rainiers, after he was brought up earlier in the week.
