I don't think any Seattle Mariners fan would say that they're happy with how the season has gone.

For a Mariners team that was not only expected to run away with the American League West with relative ease, but arguably be the best team in the American League, this season has been far from what many were hoping and expecting.

The Mariners are still a decent team and have plenty of time to turn things around. In second place in the American League West at 23-26, one game behind the first-place Athletics, the Mariners are definitely still in a very good spot.

The hope and expectation is that they're eventually going to turn this thing around and start playing at the level everybody knows they can.

However, if that doesn't happen, there's a very good scenario in which the Mariners might decide to cut ties with skipper Dan Wilson. He was recently named one of five managers on the hot seat throughout the remainder of the year.

“The Mariners have run into bad injury luck, but this team just hasn't played well really all year. They're only 2.0 games back in the division, which helps remove some of the pressure that Dan Wilson is facing, but the fact that a team this talented is sitting four games under .500 is hard to brush off.

“Wilson helped get the Mariners as far as they'd ever gotten in the playoffs last season, but that successful season only resulted in higher expectations in 2026. You'd think that if Seattle continues to struggle, a major change could be made, and the manager is almost always the first to go,” Zachary Rotman wrote.

I don't want to blame Wilson for any of the struggles we've seen from the Mariners this year. Had he been a bit luckier on the injury side of things, I think there would be more of an argument.

However, he can't control when guys get hurt, and that's been a problem in Seattle to start the season.
