MILAN – Marie-Philip Poulin has been ruled out of Canada’s highly-anticipated rivalry game against Team USA on Tuesday night.

Poulin suffered a lower-body injury in the first period of Canada’s 5-1 win against the Czech Republic on Monday and is considered day-to-day, according to a statement from Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Less than nine minutes into Monday night’s game, Czech forward Kristýna Kaltounková laid a heavy hit along the board and Poulin’s right leg appeared to twist beneath her as she fell. Poulin stayed on the ice for a moment before getting to her knees, grimacing in obvious pain. Shortly after, she skated to the bench, putting minimal weight on her right leg.

Poulin came out on the ensuing power play — Kaltounková was assessed a minor penalty on the play — won a faceoff, but quickly waved to the bench that she was coming off. She headed to the dressing room not long after and did not take another shift.
