Todd Golden, Walter Clayton Jr. and Florida basketball made history at the Alamodome on Monday night with their win over Houston in the men's NCAA Tournament national championship.
That also now includes massive viewership for the March Madness title game.
According to a Tuesday post from the NCAA's March Madness TV account on X (formerly Twitter), Monday's national championship game averaged 18.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched NCAA Tournament national title game since 2019.

The Gators' 65-63 win over the Cougars peaked at 21.1 million viewers during the end of the game, which included Alex Condon's steal in the winding seconds after Houston's Emanuel Sharp was called for a walk, per the account.
In addition, the 18.1 million average for Monday's game between Florida and Houston was an increase of 22% from past national championship games, which comes as no surprise given that it was the closest national title game since 2022 and just the second game that was decided by less than five points in the last five tournaments.
The March Madness TV account also mentioned the combined viewership of the national semifinals and national championship game averaged 16.4 million viewers — the most views for the Final Four weekend since 2017.
Florida's Final Four win against Auburn brought in an average of 14.8 million viewers, the most-watched early window game in the Final Four since 2015, per Nielsen's final national data pull. It was originally reported that the game averaged 14.6 million views in the initial return of numbers on Sunday.
With its victory, Florida cut down the nets for the first time since going back-to-back in 2006 and 2007, while moving into a two-way tie with Villanova for the eighth-most national championship titles in the country at three. Golden also became the youngest coach since NC State's Jim Valvano to win an NCAA Tournament at 39 years old.
The Gators finished as the No. 1 team in the country in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll on Tuesday at 36-4 overall on the season.
