Maple Leafs share concerning news about Maxi Domi injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Toronto Maple Leafs shared some news in a statement on Monday that was unexpected.
Apparently, Max Domi dealt with an injury during the 2025-26 season, and his procedure to address it may not have gone perfectly.
This is what the Maple Leafs wrote and shared on social media:
"Forward Max Domi underwent offseason surgery to address an issue he played through during the 2025-26 season. Due to complications arising from the procedure, Domi will be out indefinitely. Domi will continue working with the club's medical staff and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp."

There's definitely a bit of uncertainty and worry about the wording of that statement.
As is often the case in hockey, there's also very little actual addressing of the injury. That both limits speculation in a specificity sense but also raises speculation in a mystery sense.
Regardless, it's quite relevant for Toronto's 31-year old forward who has two years remaining on his contract. The Maple Leafs are set to pay him $3.75 million in each of the next two seasons.
Domi is coming off a season in which he played 80 games and had 12 goals with 24 assists. He was a ghastly minus-29 while on the ice, by far the worst mark of a career that has included Arizona, Montreal, Columbus, Chicago, Dallas and Carolina.
The well-traveled Domi will now be working to make his way back to the ice, but it likely won't be clear for a while what his path to return might really look like.
For now, the Maple Leafs' fanbase is surely just hoping he's doing OK and can heal up in time.
