Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner Turns Heads With Auston Matthews Comments

The Toronto Maple Leafs are heading back home tied in their playoff series with the Florida Panthers. Despite leading the series 2-0, Toronto has dropped two straight games on the road.

With Game 5 back at home, the Maple Leafs will be looking to take control of the matchup once again. But Toronto has been playing well without star Auston Matthews contributing on the score sheet.

Matthews has yet to score a goal against the Panthers, but the team doesn't seem overly concerned. His teammates have the utmost faith in his skill and know that his time is coming soon.

“Everyone wants to produce, wants to score goals, and he hasn’t let it get him down at all,” linemate Mitch Marner said of Matthews after practice Tuesday. “His mood, his demeanor in the locker room has been unbelievable.

“Stay patient. This is a hard team to score against. They’ve done it all year.”

The drought from Matthews is surprising since he is one of the better goal scorers in the NHL. But the Panthers are also an excellent defensive team.

Florida was seventh in the NHL in goals allowed this season, giving up an average of 2.72 per game. They have continued that success in the postseason, only allowing 2.78 so far this year.

If Matthews can break out of his slump, the Maple Leafs may have a better chance of advancing past the Panthers. But Toronto has been able to hold down the fort without him, however, he seems due to finally break through in the series.
