The high school soccer season is officially over, and the district tournament seedings have been released.
Several teams in Sarasota and Manatee counties are the no-doubt favorites to bring home district championships, while others face a more challenging path to glory.
Here are the prep soccer district tournament seedings and what to make of them:
More: Sarasota, Manatee high school girls soccer updated players of the year
Championship game dates and times are from schedules posted on MaxPreps.com.
More: Sarasota, Manatee boys soccer updated players of the year, rankings
Analysis: This district holds a lot of intrigue. Not only is it a district with all local teams, but there is also no runaway favorite. Saint Stephen’s leads this district, but Out-of-Door Academy has the best record. If that weren’t enough, Bradenton Christian has already defeated ODA this season. This district could go any which way and would not be a surprise.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: There is no team in this district ranked among the top 300 teams in the state, but the gap between Community School of Naples (No. 307 in FL) and the next closest team, Fort Myers Gateway Charter (No. 520 in FL) is over 200 teams.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: Cardinal Mooney is the clear favorite in this district. Though the Cougars finished with an 8-5-4 record, they are ranked No. 192 in FL, which puts them at a distinct advantage over a district that includes no other teams with a winning record and no other team ranked inside the top 350 in the state.
Final: Jan. 23, 7 p.m.
Analysis: Aside from Hardee (No. 113 in FL), this is a winnable district. However, all of the other teams are ranked more than 100 overall spots below Hardee, including Seminole (No. 240), Southeast (No. 254), Booker (No. 291), and Bayshore (No. 379).
Final: Jan. 28, 7 p.m.
Analysis: This is a brutal district for anyone not named Jesuit. Not only is this a seven-team district, but Jesuit is ranked as the No. 5 overall team in the state. If that weren’t enough, Freedom (No. 82 in FL) is also a challenging team to get past.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: This district is Lakewood Ranch’s to lose. The Mustangs did not lose a single match in the entire regular season and will have homefield advantage throughout the district tournament. Just one other team, Parrish, has a record above. 500, and the Bulls have gone just 3-3-3 over their last nine matches.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: This district tournament should be a competitive one. Most of these teams routinely play each other, and the top seed, Venice, has played close with Sarasota, the second seed, this year, with each team owning a win, a loss, and a draw in three meetings.
Final: Jan. 28, 7 p.m.
Analysis: This is shaping up to be one of the most competitive districts. ODA has been tough to beat this season, but one of the few matches it didn't win this year was a 0-0 tie with Bradenton Christian. If that wasn't enough, every team in this district finished this season with a winning record.
Final: Jan. 26, 7 p.m.
Analysis: On the surface it would appear as if Imagine and Community School of Naples are neck-and-neck for the district, but the rankings tell the full story. Imagine is the No. 169 team in FL and No. 23 in Class 2A, while CSN is No. 371 in the state and No. 51 in 2A. That difference is due to an exceptionally low strength of schedule for the Seahawks. In one meeting this year, Imagine won 2-0.
Final: Jan. 28, 7 p.m.
Analysis: This is unique district that should be easy to predict. Cardinal Mooney had a middling record this year, but the Cougars played an extremely challenging schedule and are ranked as the No. 84 team in the state because of it. Boca Ciega, on the other hand, won just one match this year and is ranked as the No. 522 team in the state.
Final: Jan. 23, 5 p.m.
Analysis: Seminole is the clear-cut favorite in this district. Aside from Seminole (No. 133 in FL), there is no other team ranked inside the top 300 teams in the state.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: Braden River has had a phenomenal season, and has been rewarded for it with a No. 58 overall state ranking. The Pirates played tough competition this year, and they're getting a break away from it in the district tournament. East Bay, the No. 2 seed, is the No. 348 team in the state.
Final: Jan. 26, 7 p.m.
Analysis: Lakewood Ranch opened the year with a 0-1-2 record, but has since gone 12-0-1 as it has soared up to No. 28 overall in the state. It will be a challenge for any team to slow down the Mustangs, but Parrish (No. 40 overall) is a legitimate threat.
Final: Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
Analysis: Riverview is the dominant team in this district. The Rams were one of the best teams in the area this year and finished with a No. 48 overall state ranking. No other team in the district finished with a winning record, and second-seeded Venice is a young team that lost to Riverview 5-2 in the regular season.
Final: Jan. 28, 7 p.m.
