Man Utd priority target makes Mainoo-esque demand that could hinder his transfer

Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen is seeking a sizable payday ahead of his expected summer move.

The Nigerian fell out with the Napoli board last season, but failed to seal a permanent transfer despite interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Hence, he joined Galatasaray on loan in September to avoid spending the rest of the campaign on the sidelines.

The 26-year-old established himself as a fan favourite on the west side of Istanbul, pushing the club towards another league title with his clinical displays upfront. Osimhen has thus far contributed with 33 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

But despite his great rapport with Galatasaray and their fans, the Nigeria international isn’t expected to dwell in Turkiye for too long, as the club can hardly afford to sign him on a permanent basis. The striker will return to Napoli in the summer before trying to seal an exit for good.

Naturally, Man Utd emerged as one of the player’s prime suitors, as INEOS are keen to land a quality bomber who would replace the misfiring Rasmus Hojlund upfront.

But according to CentreDevils, striking a deal with Osimhen remains easier said than done, as the player and his entourage are requesting a salary of £10.2 million a year, roughly equating £196,000 per week.

The source notes that Osimhen’s salary demand is almost similar to Kobbie Mainoo’s, who wants £200,000 to renew his contract with the Red Devils.

While the club directors are keen to keep the 20-year-old midfielder at Carrington, they decided to reject this request, hence why the player has yet to pen a new deal.

Therefore, Osimhen’s demands could meet the same fate, especially with INEOS keen to lower the wage bill.

Nevertheless, the Lagos native is considered one of the best strikers in his generation, so perhaps he has a better chance of receiving these figures compared to Mainoo who is still far from a finished article.
