The New York Giants may be getting some encouraging news regarding one of the NFL‘s brightest young stars. After months of uncertainty surrounding Malik Nabers’ recovery from a serious knee injury, a new report suggests the standout wide receiver could be ahead of schedule.

According to the New York Post, Nabers is expected to avoid being placed on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list when training camp begins. While that doesn’t guarantee he’ll be ready for Week 1, it’s a significant step in the right direction.

The Giants have remained optimistic that Nabers can suit up for their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, but his rehabilitation timeline has been closely monitored throughout the offseason.

Avoiding the active/PUP list would allow Nabers to participate in some capacity during training camp, giving both the coaching staff and medical team an opportunity to gradually increase his workload.

Even so, the Giants are expected to be cautious. After investing heavily in Nabers as the centerpiece of their passing attack, the organization has little reason to rush him back before he’s fully healthy.

The Offense Looks Different With Nabers

There’s no denying how important Nabers has become to New York’s offense. Since entering the league, he has quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers, capable of changing games with his speed, route running, and ability to create explosive plays after the catch.

His return would be a major boost for the entire offense, particularly second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who is expected to lean heavily on his top receiving weapon as he continues his development.

A healthy Nabers gives the Giants a legitimate No. 1 target capable of stretching defenses and opening opportunities for everyone else on the field.

Nabers’ road back has been anything but straightforward. He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers, ending his season. Surgery followed on October 28, but his recovery hit another obstacle this offseason when lingering stiffness required a second procedure to remove scar tissue.

Those setbacks naturally created questions about whether he’d be ready for the start of the 2026 season. The latest report, however, offers reason for optimism.

Week 1 Is Back in Play

There’s still work to be done before Nabers is officially cleared for game action, and training camp will provide the clearest indication yet of where he stands physically. Still, avoiding the active/PUP list would represent meaningful progress and keep him on track for the Giants’ season opener.

For a team looking to take a step forward in 2026, having Malik Nabers on the field from Week 1 could make all the difference. His presence changes the complexion of New York’s offense, gives Jaxson Dart a proven playmaker, and provides the Giants with the explosive weapon they’ve been missing since Nabers went down with his knee injury last season.
