With the NFL Draft just a little over a months away, teams across the league are starting to finalize their draft boards. For teams looking for help on defense, there are many options who can make an impact. One of those players is former Longhorn Malik Muhammad, who is drawing interest from various teams, including the Washington Commanders.
The Commanders recently held a virtual meeting with the talented defensive back, according to Justin Melo from “NFL Draft on SI”. This isn't the first time the Commanders have reached out to Muhammad, as the two sides also spoke at the 2006 Panini Senior Bowl. After a solid 2025 campaign, the Commanders' interest in the Texas native comes as no surprise.
During his time as a Longhorn, Muhammad recorded 98 total tackles and 16 pass deflections. He also added three interceptions to his resume, setting a career high with two during the 2025 campaign. While playing against some of the best wide receivers in the country, Muhammad held his own and became an important part of Steve Sarkisian's defense.
As the draft draws closer, Muhammad should be a popular name. He made life difficult for wide receivers during his time in Austin. In the right system, his game should continue to improve. If the Commanders were to select Muhammad, they would be getting a player who could eventually be a starter.
Currently, the former Longhorn star is projected to be a mid to late-round pick. He has also met with the Panthers, Saints, and Bills. That list should continue to grow as teams look for upgrades on defense through the draft.
While a lot can change in the next few months, Muhammad already has plenty of suitors. Regardless of where the former Longhorn ends up, he should be able to carve out a role and put together a productive NFL career.
