Mainz kept alive hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of a European competition for the first time with a 0-0 draw at Czech side Sigma Olomouc in their Conference League last 16 first leg on Thursday.
A newly relayed pitch offered a challenge and Mainz saw January signing Silas stretchered off with a potentially serious shin injury. They also had the ball in the net in injury time but VAR confirmed an offside flag.

Crystal Palace only only draw 0-0 in London against AEK Larnaca, who had Javier Rozada in charge for the first time. The Cypriots had won at Selhurst Park in the group phase.
AEK Athens romped to a 4-0 win at Slovenia's Celje and look best placed to go through after next week's second legs.

AZ Alkmaar will take a 2-1 advantage to Sparta Prague next week after their first leg and Racing Strasbourg have the same lead but are at home in the second leg against Croatian side Rijeka.
Shakhtar Donetsk won 3-1 at Lech Poznan to underline their continued European resolve despite years of upheaval for the Ukrainians. Next Thursday's second leg will also be played in Poznan's home country of Poland, but the Krakow clash will count as Shakhtar's home game.
