Washington Commanders minority owner Magic Johnson couldn't be any happier with the latest development in the NFL.
On Monday, league commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the NFL Draft is heading to the nation's capital in 2027, saying in a statement that they are "excited" to bring the "marquee event" in a "city rich in history and national pride."
According to the NFL's official press release, the event will be hosted in partnership with the Commanders and will take place in some of the city's "most iconic landmarks," such as the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue
"With the support of President Trump, the Commanders, Events DC, and Mayor Bowser we're looking forward to delivering an unforgettable experience as we celebrate the next generation of NFL stars," Goodell further stated.

After hearing the news, Johnson expressed his delight that the city has been chosen to host the event. The NBA icon—who was part of the ownership group that bought the Commanders in 2023—also highlighted how impactful it will be on D.C.
"I want to thank NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the entire National Football League for awarding Washington, D.C. the 2027 NFL Draft," Johnson wrote in a post on X.
"Roger and I have been friends for over 25 years and I’m excited that the Draft will generate a lot of revenue for the city and create so many jobs! Hosting the NFL Draft means so much to Washington D.C. and all of our fans from around the DMV!"
Of course, the 2027 NFL Draft is still a couple of years away, but considering that it's one of the most popular events in the sport, there are tons of preparations that need to be made.
Sure enough, it will be interesting to see what activities and events the Commanders and the city will have during draft week. For now, though, fans can only wait and see.
As for the 2026 NFL Draft, it is set to take place in Pittsburgh from April 23-25, 2026.
