SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota state track and field wrapped up on Saturday, seeing both Sioux Falls Christian boys and girls teams claim the Class ‘A’ state title for the thirteenth time.
The Chargers success this year was highlighted by two best friends, Pepperdine commit Halle Braun and Duke commit Ellie Maddox. Maddox and Braun each claimed four event wins while each breaking three meet records.
“When I look back on my career, there’s a lot of races that I’m really proud of where I was able to come up first,” Maddox said. “Those aren’t my favorite memories, my favorite memories are the practices, the late nights, the hard workouts, the time with my team.”
“They’re such great kids,” head coach Luke Vander Leest said. “Their faith is solid. They know who they are, they know whose they are and with that, they’re going to do great things. Halle is going to Pepperdine and Ellie is going to Duke and I just can’t wait to see them on the next level, continuing to use their God given gifts.”
Maddox and Braun exchanged on the last leg of their final race as Chargers for the win.
