Cheryl Reeve made history on Wednesday night in Connecticut.

The Minnesota Lynx coach, with the team's 86-80 win over the Sun, picked up the 380th victory of her coaching career. That officially made her the winningest head coach in WNBA history.

The win broke a tie with Mike Thibault, who was the previous regular-season wins leader in league history.

“I am so glad this is over,” Reeve said on the USA network with a laugh. “Sorry Mike, we’ve had a lot of great battles … I know he’s happy for me. Somebody’s going to pass me [eventually, and I’m going to be happy for them too.”

Reeve, who led the Lynx to multiple titles earlier in her coaching career, is already the WNBA's all-time winningest postseason coach, too. Bill Laimbeer, who is in third on the regular-season wins list, is the only other coach to have won more than 300 career games.

Reeve has spent her entire head coaching career with the Lynx, who hired her in 2010 after nearly a decade as an assistant elsewhere in the league. Reeve, with star Maya Moore on hand, guided the Lynx to four WNBA titles in her first eight seasons at the helm in Minneapolis. They reached the WNBA Finals six times in a seven-year span, too. The Lynx last reached the WNBA Finals in 2024 after a bit of a lull following the dynasty era, but fell to the New York Liberty.

Reeve is a four-time WNBA coach of the year, and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame last month. She was also the head coach of the Team USA women's basketball roster that won gold in the Olympics in 2024. That marked the United States' eighth straight gold medal.

The Lynx's win on Wednesday night brought them to 16-6 on the season. That's the best record in the league, half a game better than the Las Vegas Aces and Golden State Valkyries.

“I’m excited for the team that we won,” Reeve said. “We really had to gut it out. It wasn’t pretty, we had to find a way. Again, I’m just glad it’s over.”
