The Boston Celtics earned a commanding 127-102 win in Game 5 of the playoff series against the New York Knicks.

The Celtics came into the game 3-1 down in the series, and it was a must-win for Joe Mazzulla's side.

They lost the first quarter 32-30 but bounced back brilliantly. The Celtics went on to win the remaining three quarters to put themselves back in a better position in the tie.

The Celtics lost Jayson Tatum to a devastating injury in Game 4. The 27-year-old ruptured his Achilles and has since undergone surgery.

With their superstar forward out for the foreseeable future, Mazzulla's team needed motivation from elsewhere.

Luke Kornet turned out to be the man to rise to the occasion.

Coming off the bench, Kornet absolutely stole the show. He scored 10 points, had nine rebounds, and one assist. To top everything off, Kornet managed seven blocks against his former team.

His seven blocks are the most by a Celtics player in an elimination game ever. It was a breakout performance from Kornet when his team needed it the most.

Apart from Kornet, Derrick White was another standout performer for the Celtics. White scored 34 points, including seven 3s.

The 30-year-old also managed three rebounds and two assists during the crucial game.

The series between the Celtics and the Knicks is now very evenly poised. After such a dominant display, Joe Mazzulla's team should be brimming with confidence.

Game 6 of the series takes place on May 16, with the Knicks hosting. Game 5 got physical at times, but the Celtics thrived.

The Celtics also became the 14th team in NBA history to bounce back from being 3-1 down.

The job, though, is not yet done as there are two more games to go in a series that looks set to go down to the wire.
