Kennard produced a flawless shooting display from beyond the arc, making five three-pointers without a single miss.
According to StatMuse, he became the first Lakers player to record at least five made threes without missing in a playoff game since Robert Horry in 1997.
His impact went beyond efficiency, finishing as the game’s top scorer with 27 points while adding four rebounds and three assists.
That contribution proved decisive, especially with Kevin Durant absent, giving the Lakers an opportunity they capitalised on in Game 1.
Injuries mean Luke Kennard’s role remains crucial
Doncic is still expected to miss the second game against the Rockets as he continues recovering from a hamstring injury.
He has not been ruled out for the remainder of the series, but a potential return for him is only projected later in the duel depending on his progress.
Reaves is also not expected to feature against the Rockets, leaving the Lakers short of key creators.
That situation increases the importance of Kennard maintaining his form as the series continues.
