Luka Doncic has always been a great player since entering the NBA in 2018, but lately, he has elevated his game to new heights. He has powered the Los Angeles Lakers to an eight-game winning streak by averaging 40.9 points a game during those eight contests, and on Thursday versus the Miami Heat, he erupted for 60 points.
In that contest, he made nine of his 17 3-point attempts, giving him 232 made treys on the season. That has moved him past D'Angelo Russell for the most made 3-pointers in a single season in Lakers history. Russell threw in 226 triples just two seasons ago during his last full campaign with the team.
The league record for the most made 3-pointers in one season is held by Stephen Curry, who converted 402 treys during the 2015-16 season. With 12 games to go this season, it's pretty safe to say Doncic won't get there.
But the Slovenian superstar is still having a blue whale of a season. After Thursday's win, he's averaging 33.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.6 steals a game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 37% from 3-point range. He likely won't win the league MVP award, but he is playing at an MVP level, and as a result, the Lakers are playing as well as they have in quite some time.

"Per the Lakers: With his fourth 3-pointer at Miami, Luka Dončić passed D’Angelo Russell (226, 2023-24) for the most 3-pointers in a season in Lakers history," Khobi Price of the California Post wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
