While he is currently busy playing in the NBA postseason, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić had time to make a donation to help the community.
One of the many murals of the late Kobe Bryant was unfortunately vandalized earlier this week. This mural depicted Bryant alongside his late daughter, Gigi, and is on 14th and Main Street in downtown Los Angeles. The artist Louie Palsino, also known as Louie “Sloe” Motions, completed the mural in 2020.
When a GoFundMe appeared online to help restore the mural to its original artistic representation, Dončić was one of the first to make a donation. Here is what he said about the decision (via Los Angeles Times):
“Kobe is L.A. He and Gigi mean so much to this city, to the Lakers organization and to me personally,” Doncic said when asked about the donation Tuesday. “I’m happy to do anything to help make sure he and his daughter are honored.”
The artist was originally seeking $5,000 to fix the mural and Dončić met the entire goal in one click.
Palsino said the donation will "go directly towards the materials needed for the restoration process" such as paints and sealants.
