LSU blew a 3-0 lead against Southeastern Louisiana and now find themselves on the brink of elimination in the Baton Rouge Regional.
The 4-3 outcome marks LSU's first home loss to Southeastern in their all-time series (19-1) and their first defeat in a regional game since 2022. For the game, LSU outhit the Lions 7-3. While no player from either team had multiple hits, LSU's Jalia Lassiter stood out with two RBI and two walks.
After the game, LSU Coach Beth Torina reacted to the loss. She said, “Definitely not how we drew it up…Our staff worked really hard to prepare, I felt like we had a good game plan. Just didn’t execute it at times and didn’t get any breaks either. They are a quality opponent. They put a lot of pressure on you with their speed game, they don’t leave any room for error…Definitely not where we want to be, not acceptable to me for this program and how we play softball games. But it’s also sports and sometimes the chips just don’t fall your way.”
Torina continued and shared her message to the team as they face a must-win scenario on Saturday. She said, “You just have to answer it. You just have to keep throwing punches, it’s really our only option at this point…Is it a harder path? Yes, of course…We have a team that’s really tough so I feel like it can be done.”
Today at 2:30 p.m. CT, LSU will take on UConn in an elimination game after UConn lost to Nebraska 10-2 in their opening match of the Baton Rouge Regional.
