This upcoming draft's crop of rookie quarterbacks is certainly not the best that we've ever seen. The 2026 NFL Draft, from a QB perspective will definitely not resemble 1983. Fernando Mendoza is your clear cut top prospect, and Ty Simpson will likely join him in the first round. After that, there is a big drop-off.

So if you're the top performing signal caller in Mobile this weekend, the opportunity to be the third QB off the boards is right there for the taking. Garrett Nussmeier has not just entered the chat; he's dominating it.

The son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator and former NFL QB Doug Nussmeier, Garrett already had the pedigree and the potential. Now he's got the resume, after winning the Senior Bowl MVP award, and leading the American team to a 17-9 win over the National.

Nussmeier went 5-8 passing for 57 yards, one interception and one rushing touchdown. His passer rating for the all-star game in Mobile on Saturday was 97.4 and that's better than many of his games with LSU this past season.

The Brian Kelly era was an unmitigated disaster, or at least it was by LSU standards, and the potential misuse of Nussmeier could be one of the reasons why.

One has to wonder if Kelly and his staff really didn't get as much out of Nussmeier as they could have. In their defense, the Tigers QB was also battling injury quite a bit this past season, and he opened up about the oblique issue he had during Senior Bowl week.

Thus, we likely didn't see the best that he truly had to offer.

Nussmeier likely entered Senior Bowl week with a day three grade, but he might have gotten himself into the day two discussion now. After all, you know the hash tag: #TheDraftStartsInMobile.
