LSU football is in the race for the No. 1 recruit in America. Jalen Brewster, a five-star defensive lineman committed to Texas Tech, remains one of LSU's top targets.

Brewster paid a visit to LSU earlier this Summer. The five-star hasn't waivered with the Red Raiders since committing last fall, but the fact that Brewster is still taking visits and talking to schools is a good sign for LSU. That means this race isn't over.

Brewster is a can't-miss prospect. Even though LSU signed a handful of talented defensive linemen last year, LSU won't be afraid to throw resources Brewster's way. Even in the transfer portal era, interior defensive line is a position that needs to be recruited at the high school level. It's hard to find quality defensive tackles in the portal.

Rivals and ESPN both rank Brewster as the No. 1 overall recruit. All three major recruiting services slot Brewster No. 1 at his position. He's a consensus five-star recruit.

"A dangerous pass rusher from any spot. Combines explosive get-off with the movement skills of a much smaller player, carrying elite testing numbers directly onto the field. Consistently collapses pockets and disrupts plays before they develop. Has legitimate game-wrecking moments on film," Rivals' Charles Power wrote of Brewster.

LSU's 2027 class is strong and the Tigers have been on a recruiting heater in recent weeks, but Brewster would be the headliner the second he commits. But LSU has a hard battle to fight. Texas Tech, like LSU, isn't afraid to spend on talent. LSU would have to win a significant bidding war to woo Brewster to Baton Rouge.
