LSU cornerback breaks silence on Jayden Daniels jersey number: 'It's the number I was promised'

Former LSU star and current Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels made headlines on Thursday when it was reported that an attorney representing him sent a letter to the university informing it that they aren't allowed to use his name, image and likeness anymore. The reason? It's over the fact that Daniels was disappointed that LSU cornerback DJ Pickett would wear his old No. 5 jersey number.

That left fans with so many questions, and along with Daniels speaking out on social media, there was Pickett who spoke to reporters as well.

"I've worn the number my whole life, since I was four years old," he said. "It's the number I was promised. I wish Jayden the best. Good player, and he did real good here. So, that's all."

Was DJ Pickett promised Jayden Daniels' jersey number?​

That's his claim, and head coach Lane Kiffin mentioned that the number was "promised to him in recruiting here."

Daniels' statement from his spokesperson said that "Jayden made it clear that he did not want his number given to another player, and he believed his wishes would be respected."
