How many 3rd and long did his defensive calls allow to convert? I'm one to normally blame the player for execution but his defensive play calling was abysmal. He sat back in soft zones against a first time starter way too often. Josh McDaniel owned his ass.

Early return on Tyvon Branch doesn't look good either. I saw him get beat in coverage, miss tackles, and a horrible special teams penalty.

Yep, when you cant get off the field on 3rd down and you give up 23 points to the Pats second string, and let them control the game, well, you lose.

Yep bad snap, yep some questionable play calls, but the DEFENSE put us in the position for all that other bad stuff to happen.

Not an impressive defensive showing, players or coaching. And anytime someone compares Richard Sherman to Patrick Peterson, I gag a little, because Sherman actually tackles running backs.

For all that 2 huge mistakes by Williams gave them 14 points.

I'm not Bettcher fan but with a legit #2 CB we win this game.

100% outcoached, schooled our D

Seriously I feel so strongly about it I feel like blaming anything else for this loss is kindof a cop-out. The defense lost this game. Everything else bad that happened was a result of them getting beat all night by Jimmy and the backup dancers. If we cant get off the field on 3rd down at home against that offense, we aren't going ANYWHERE this year. Un freaking real.

The 2nd down defense may have been even worse. It seemed like they went from 2nd and 9+ to 3rd and two on a lot of drives. Obviously the 3rd down Blount play was atrocious but Peterson needs to make some kind of play on there.

Yeah Edelmen ran the same sideline out route probably for 5 catches, garrapolo wanted to dink and dunk and betcher was covering something else.

You know, I probably agree with that. But why wasn't PP on Edelman from play 1 as he was their only weapon. I realize the big plays that hurt us weren't Edelman but he(Edelmman) let Jimmy get comfortable.

Ya'll are being too polite. Our D sucked. Williams especially sucked and I'm surprised and irritated they gave him no help all game. They consistently left him on an island. And frankly, Jones wasn't that impressive on D. He couldn't disengage his man on 90% of the plays. That's not helpful at all. He was on his ass on several plays, and I mean knocked down and man handled and pushed aside. I didn't see an aggressive or ferocious defense. Pathetic if you ask me.

Didn't matter which Caucasian receiver was out there, Hogan, Amendola, or Edelman, they made Williams look like an amateur.

This. Piss poor tackling, Jones getting manhandled w chop blocks and thrown down by Bennett, no pass rush whatsoever.

The most egregious error is leaving the rookie CB on an island by himself. How do you conceivably even do that, in ANY situation, as the DC? Williams needs safety help on every play, yet bettcher is too dumb to see through it. This happened more than once and the pats were smart enough to burn us.

Also as a side note, I'm glad HB played most of this game but you can tell he still doesn't have his spring back yet. Will probably be a faster recovery time than his last acl comeback but this D won't be fully effective until then.

Also we need a serviceable CB right now. Not entirely Brandon Williams' fault since he's a converted CB but his play tonight is giving Eric green a run for his money...

Also think about this... we had WAY LESS talent in our trenches when Horton/Bowles were our coaches yet we managed to crush the opposition with our blitzes and pressure.

On our team right now there's CC, Jones, Peters, Rucker, Gunter, Nkemdiche, even Mauro. There should be absolutely no excuse why we didn't get more pressure on the QB tonight.

We have a challenging task next week as well with an even more mobile QB in Winston. Forget in-game adjustments for now, can Bettcher take the first step and just have a game plan?

I posted it in the game thread... But I was a little pissed off watching PP back-peddle as Blount was finishing his TD run.

It kinda reminded me of Cam in the SB during the fumble he wanted no part of....

Seemed like he had a lot of confidence in our front four being able to generate pressure, didn't work out well at all. I'd need to see the game film but I don't feel like we blitzed heavily enough on third down once it was clear sitting back wasn't doing crap.

On Betcher!!!!! Are you kidding me! Go back and watch the game! How many of those "3rd and long" ended because of missed tackles! Betcher can't tackle them himself. Heck, even Peterson and Honey Badger, our Pro Bowlers, missed tackles! The only person I saw tackling was Watford and that was holding in field goal range!

Sorry, but I'm missing the point of what Caucasian has to do with anything.

It's Bettcher's job to put our players in the best position possible to win the game. I, personally, don't think having Honey Badger in there 100% of the snaps was very smart; I don't think leaving Williams on an island was very smart; and I don't think sticking with a pretty bland four man front on the last two drives was very smart given our weakness in 3rd & long all game. They had WEEKS to come up with a better game plan and Bettcher was outcoached, plain and simple.
