During the college baseball season, Longhorns players have been popular on Baseball America's Team of the Week. That trend continued on Wednesday when Casey Borba became the latest player to earn national recognition. His stellar performance at the plate earned him a spot as the DH.
As the Longhorns continued to be one of the best teams in the country, Borba went 7-for-17 with four home runs over four games. He also drove in eight runs and recorded a team-high 19 total bases. Regardless of who was on the mound, the California native made hard contact and helped power the Longhorns' offense.
While the regular season is far from over, Borba has taken his game to new heights. Through 71 at-bats, he has seven home runs and 22 RBI. In that stretch, he also has 14 walks, 20 runs, and 24 hits. He is on pace to set career highs in almost every category, including home runs and RBI. Over the last week, he has shown just how far his game has come.
On a team loaded with talent, Borba is starting to stand out. The Longhorns' lineup includes Ethan Mendoza and Aiden Robbins, both of whom have been honored by Perfect Game this season. With those three making life difficult for every pitcher they face, the Longhorns' offense has been hard to stop.
Through 105 games in the burnt orange, Borba has put together a solid career. In that stretch, the Orange Lutheran High product has posted a .286 batting average and driven in 86 runs. His numbers should continue to improve as the Longhorns' infielder has shown no signs of slowing down.
With Borba locked in at the plate, more awards could be on the horizon. He has shown this season that his best baseball is still ahead of him, earning the Longhorns' star national attention.
