Some interleague competition appears to have jolted FC Dallas back to winning ways.
The team defeated Liga MX opponent Chivas 1-0 in its second of three Phase One matches in the Leagues Cup at PayPal Park in San Jose. It's the second consecutive win for FC Dallas after a loss and two draws in MLS competition following the two-month World Cup break.
Dallas is one of just two MLS sides to have not conceded a goal through its first two Leagues Cup games this year (Charlotte FC being the other), as goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois has posted back-to-back clean sheets. He also did not allow a goal for the first time all year in a 0-0 draw last week against the LA Galaxy, which was Dallas' last MLS match before the current competition.
Saturday's game was level for 73 minutes until Logan Farrington found the back of the net for FC Dallas. The forward received the ball in the box from Santiago Moreno on his right foot, cut it back to his left foot, and curled his shot into the bottom corner for a clinical finish to well executed counter attack. FC Dallas had just 33% possession in the contest, but took advantage of its best scoring opportunity to move to 2-0 in the Leagues Cup.
Next up for FC Dallas is Toluca at Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca, Mexico on Wednesday. A win would clinch a spot in the quarterfinals, which begin on August 25.
