Apr. 8—GRAND FORKS — Former Grand Forks Central standout Ethan Thomas continues to turn heads in his true freshman season at UND.

After destroying the UND indoor shot put record this winter, Thomas easily crushed the outdoor record recently, as well.

At the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif., Thomas threw a personal-best throw of 63 feet, 7.75 inches.

The previous record was 58-10, set by Chris Evenson at the 2021 Mizzou Spring Opener.

At the time of the throw, Thomas ranked No. 5 in the NCAA in the shot put.

As a senior at Central, Thomas won North Dakota Class A state titles in 2024 in the shot put, discus and javelin — the first triple-crown throwing winner since 1915.

University of Jamestown's Ryan Muizelaar, a senior infielder from Grand Forks Red River, was named the North Star Athletic Association baseball player of the week last week.

Muizelaar produced a batting average of .556 in a doubleheader split with Mayville State in Sioux Falls. He was 5-for-9 with four doubles and drove in four runs.

Muizelaar hit three doubles with three RBIs in the second game to fuel the Jimmies to a 19-7 win over Mayville in Game 2.

Muizelaar was also 8-for-8 in the field including a hand in a double play.

North Dakota State's Zach McGlynn, a native of Stephen, Minn., was named the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Peak Performer of the Week last Tuesday.

McGlynn won the decathlon at the Aztec Invitational with 7,697 points, breaking a 20-year-old NDSU record in the process. He currently ranks first in the NCAA this season.

The Stephen, Minn., native recorded seven career-best marks over the course of the decathlon, plus two additional outdoor personal-bests.

McGlynn's high jump of 6-11.50 (2.12m) ranks him fifth in NDSU outdoor history. His pole vault clearance of 16-08.75 (5.10m) tied for seventh on the NDSU all-time outdoor list.

UND distance runner Jadyn Keeler broke the 10,000 meter school record and set a new Canadian U-23 record.

Keeler captured fourth in her section of the 10,000 meters at Stanford in a time of 32 minutes, 6.7 seconds. She beat the record of Yonca Kutluk, who set it at 32:57.85 last season.

Keeler's time ranks No. 17 all-time in the NCAA.

The previous Canadian U23 mark was held by Gracelyn Larken of Ontario at the 2023 Stanford Invitational at 32:32.61.

Keeler is a junior from Barrie, Ontario.

Grand Forks Red River's Elijah Dafoe has signed to run track and cross country at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, an NCAA Division II member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Former UND men's basketball player Billy Brown will join the coaching staff at Drake under former South Dakota State coach Eric Henderson.

Warwick's Elijah Feather has signed to play college basketball at Lake Region State College. As a senior at Warwick, Feather averaged 23.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game en route to Region 2 Senior Athlete of the Year honors, as well as a first team all-state nod.
