North Palm Beach Rowing Club traveled to Sarasota and ended a powerhouse program's winning streak, capturing first place in the girls varsity quad feature event at the Florida State Championship.

Facing Sarasota, a program that entered the weekend's competition on a 14-year winning streak, North Palm Beach Rowing Club took them down on their home water, adding a freshman doubles trophy, a silver in the girls lightweight double, and a silver in the boys freshman singles.

Myla Chance of Jupiter High School, Kaitlyn DeMaria of Jupiter High School, Phillippa Bouman of Suncoast High School, and Chloe Ryder of Dreyfoos School of the Arts made up the girls quad that took first place in what is being lauded as a "David versus Goliath" story by North Palm Beach Rowing Club.

The Sarasota Crew boasts over 400 members, while North Palm Beach Rowing Club has just 60, but that didn't matter when it came to race day.

"It was a good race," head coach Scott McKee said. "I told the girls, 'the two toughest things to do in sports are to repeat and to knock off a dynasty.' And in two different events, we did those two little feats."

Briauna Jia-Li Brown and Adele Schwinghammer, both Dreyfoos School of the Arts students, won the freshman double, repeating their success after winning the event last year as eight-graders.
