LA CROSSE — The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at UW-La Crosse’s Uncaged Eagle Open on Friday.
Yakob Ekoue broke a 13-year-old school outdoor record in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 62.58 meters. That shattered the previous record of 60.07 meters set in 2012 by Tyler Genovese. Ekoue won the event handily on Friday.
In track events, the Blugolds also posted some of the fastest times in program history. Stefan Klechefski swept the men’s 100- and 200-meter dashes. He ran a 10.28-second 100-meter dash, the second-fastest outdoor time in UWEC’s history.
He also posted a 21.20-second run in the 200, the third-best time in program history. In the women’s 100-meter dash, Allyson Kakes had a run of 11.87 seconds — the second-best time in school history.
Kylee Grabarski ran a 55.75 in the women’s 400-meter dash to win the event. Lauren Jex had a time of 2:13.41 in the women’s 800, which also ranks third in the Blugold record book.
Blue Devils hit qualifying marks
LA CROSSE — The UW-Stout men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Uncaged Eagle Open Friday night. Jack Roeber won the men’s triple jump with the sixth best mark in the country and Kaylie Raths won the women’s 400-meter hurdles.
Jack Roeber won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 14.92 meters.
Kaylie Raths won the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.44.
WIAC Champion Hannah Zastrow was the top division III runner and took second overall in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.17.
Zastrow was also the top division III finisher in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.64 meters to place second overall.
Thomas Casey was the top division III finisher in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.22, which ranks 12th in the nation.
The men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Malachy Driscoll, James John, Braedon Pederson, Jonny Grams took second with a time of 41.59 seconds.

Blugolds fall to Pointers in WIAC Tournament
WHITEWATER — UW-Eau Claire lost to UW-Stevens Point 9-4 in the opening round of the WIAC Tournament on Friday at UW-Whitewater. The third-seeded Blugolds fell behind early, and despite a late push, couldn’t recover against the sixth-seeded Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point (28-11) took the lead on a run-scoring single in the top of the second. The Pointers broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning.
UW-Eau Claire (27-14) pulled one back with a run off a Pointers error in the bottom of the fourth.
Down 6-1, Blugold sophomore Molly Marquardt hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
The Pointers added some key insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
UWEC senior Jacie Schultz started in the circle and pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed three earned runs.
The Blugolds will await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Monday.
LACROSSE
Four Blugolds earn All-WIAC honors
MADISON — Three members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s lacrosse team earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for the 2025 season.
Junior Reegan Werner earned first team recognition, while sophomore Ellie Fisher and senior Alexandria Shea were named to the second team. Additionally, junior Devon Crews received an honorable mention.
Werner, a midfielder, put together one of the best seasons in program history. She set new Blugold records for single-season points (73), shots (106), ground balls (53) and caused turnovers (39). She scored 45 goals and passed 28 assists. This is Werner’s second consecutive All-WIAC first team honor.
Fisher picked up all-conference honors for the first time off the back of a prolific season in the attack. She scored 40 goals and passed 15 assists to finish with 55 points.
Fisher was also named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Shea, a goalie, picked up All-WIAC second team honors for the second consecutive year. She set a new single-season record with 153 saves this year.
Crews scored 33 goals and had 17 assists.
The Blugolds finished with an 11-7 record. They were the WIAC Tournament runner-up for the first time.
