Liverpool stuck with underperforming £150k per week forward who has been priced out of a move

Liverpool are set to make big changes to their frontline this summer.

Mohamed Salah leaves the club on a free transfer having reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early.

And the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna for a €40m fee has already been completed.

Although sporting director Richard Hughes missed out on a deal to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig - with the Ivorian preferring Paris Saint-Germain - there are other wingers in the crosshairs.

Liverpool want to make space for new wingers

We could see moves for Bradley Barcola or else Bazoumana Toure and Said El Mala from the Bundesliga.

It’s clear that quick, direct one-v-one specialists are a priority for Hughes and new head coach Andoni Iraola this summer. And that is bound to have a consequence for players already on the books including Federico Chiesa.

The Italian, 28, joined Liverpool back in 2024 - going on to win the Premier League title under Arne Slot. He inked a deal until 2028 but looks certain to end his Merseyside stint early having failed to make a decisive breakthrough as a starter.

Liverpool willing to sell Chiesa

The Euro 2020 winner only started two top-flight matches last season and has been attracting attention from sides in his home country.

Como and Napoli were thought to be keenest on landing Chiesa - who cost Liverpool a fee that could reach £12.5m when signing from Juventus.

Cesc Fabregas’s Como have qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history - prompting a scramble for Italian players to comply with homegrown player regulations.

That necessity brought Chiesa onto the radar - but Tuttomercatoweb is now claiming that the winger is not on the agenda.

Chiesa deal too expensive for Como

“Players like Federico Chiesa or Andrea Cambiaso don't seem to be of interest, partly because they're considered too expensive for their quality/price ratio,” the report reads.

Chiesa earns around £150k per week at Liverpool - far too high for most Italian clubs to match. And Liverpool’s asking price has been estimated at £10m upwards.

Given his lack of output in recent seasons - and frustrating inability to remain available for long stretches - it doesn’t appear that Como are willing to take the risk.

That could leave Napoli and perhaps one or two more teams left in the race to sign Chiesa - who has been told to find a new club this summer.
