Liverpool set to part company with Arne Slot after disappointing season; Iraola emerges as top candidate
Liverpool are set to part ways with head coach Arne Slot with immediate effect, following the club's end-of-season review.
Liverpool slumped to a fifth-place finish in thePremier League during a disappointing defence of the title, despite a record-breaking spend in last summer's transfer window.
It marked a drastic decline for the Reds, who had won thePremier League during Slot's first season in charge. The 47-year-old arrived on Merseyside as Jurgen Klopp's successor and exceeded expectations by lifting the league title in his debut year.
However, Liverpool have struggled to replicate those performances in 2025/26, ending the campaign 25 points behind champions Arsenal.
Slot is now set to leave Anfield, with the club's board having decided a new direction is required. According toFabrizio Romano, the decision has been made to part company with the Dutchman, with Andoni Iraola the favourite to replace him.
Iraola is a free agent after leaving Bournemouth, having led the Cherries to a top-six finish in the Premier League.
That achievement has earned Bournemouth a place in the Europa League, nin what will be the club's first-ever campaign in European competition.
