LIV Golf's Joaquin Niemann jumps into OWGR top 50 this week

The Official World Golf Ranking has been updated for the week of July 7, 2026, with Scottie Scheffler still holding the title of the planet's best player.

By winning the John Deere Classic, Chris Gotterup jumped from No. 14 in the rankings to No. 7, while another big leap came from LIV Golf's Joaquin Niemann, who finished seventh in the DP World Tour's BMW Championship and moved into the top 50, jumping from 54 to 47. Niemann has been sharp of late, finishing in the top 10 at the U.S. Open, as well as winning the LIV Golf event in Korea earlier this year.

The OWGR system is calculated by awarding points from eligible tours and events to participating players over a rolling two-year period. Players are ranked weekly based on the number of points they earn, divided by the number of events they played in, to reach an average total. Points retain their full value for 13 weeks and are then reduced in equal increments. The current ranking of the Top 50 golfers in the world is shown below.
