It's time for the Shore's most promising young softball players to have their moment to shine in the summer sun.
Little League softball section tournaments begin across the state this week, and the Shore is represented by three district-winning teams that will try to win the Section 3 title and advance to the state tournament in Toms River.
The perennial favorites will try to host the tournament at home after cruising to last year's state title. Toms River made a strong push at the Mid-Atlantic regional tournament in 2025 as New Jersey's representative, finishing in third place after two tough losses to Delaware, who lost 6-5 to Pennsylvania in the final.
Of course, those high-stakes games are still a ways away. First, teams will try to win the section crown in the four-team double elimination tournament. The three teams from the Shore are Middletown, North Wall and Toms River. They are joined by District 12 winner Robbinsville. All games of the Section 3 tournament will be played at Lawrence Little League (100 Eggerts Crossing Rd, Lawrence Township, NJ 08648).
Game 1: Middletown (District 19) vs. Robbinsville (District 12), 6 p.m.
Game 2: Toms River (District 18) vs. North Wall (District 11), 8 p.m.
Game 3: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 6 p.m.
Game 4: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 8:15 p.m.
Game 5: Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4
Section Final: Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5, 6 p.m.
If necessary because of double elimination format, rematch at 8 p.m.
