The Lions signed center Cade Mays in free agency to upgrade a critical piece of their offense.
But now, Detroit will not have Mays for quite some time.
Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters in his Monday press conference that Mays has suffered a wrist injury and will be out for "a significant” period of time. While Campbell did not give a firm timeline, he noted that Mays will return at some point during the year.
"One of those freak things," Campbell said.
Mays, 27, was a Panthers sixth-round pick in 2022. He started 12 games for the Panthers last year, helping the club reach the postseason.
In all, Mays has appeared in 52 games with 27 starts. While he spent time with the Giants, all of his regular-season appearances have come for the Panthers.
