Lions and Patriots hosting former top 10 draft pick on free-agent visit originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Detroit Lions and New England Patriots are both showing interest in a former top-10 draft pick who is currently a free agent.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Lions and Patriots are hosting former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Jedrick Wills on a free-agent visit.
Schultz notes that Wills is going to meet with other teams, but the Lions and Patriots were the only ones he mentioned as of right now.
"Sources: Former Browns OT Jedrick Wills, who sat out last season to fully recover from a knee injury, has been on a tour of visits with NFL teams — including the Patriots and today with the Lions," Schultz reported.
Drafted by the Browns in 2020, Wills' career has been a disappointment thanks to injury and ineffective play. As Schultz points out, Wills didn't play at all last year because he was recovering from a knee injury.
While his outlook isn't great, Wills is still just 26 years old and it's not crazy to think he could turn things around with a change of scenery.
The Patriots and Lions could both use more depth at tackle, so taking a flyer on Wills makes sense, especially for Detroit after Taylor Decker was plagued by injury last season.
