Lionel Messi left fans worried after limping off of the field with an apparent hamstring issue over the weekend.
During the Major League Soccer matchup on Sunday, May 24, the Argentina-born soccer superstar, 38, left the pitch after reaching for his left hamstring during the game.
PEOPLE has reached out to Inter Miami for comment.

Journalist Gastón Edul said in an X post, originally penned in Spanish. “Leo Messi requested to be substituted as a precautionary measure because his hamstring tightened up. He does not have a muscle injury. He did not continue to put strain on the area or take any risks.”
Earlier this year, the Inter Miami player also made headlines after an unexpected encounter with a fan during a friendly match against Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, on Thursday, Feb. 26.
Video from the game showed a shirtless fan sprinting across the field while being chased by security guards before reaching Messi and hugging him from behind as the athlete posed for a photo on the field.

Security eventually tackled the fan while he was still holding onto Messi, briefly pulling the soccer star to the ground in the process. Messi appeared unharmed following the incident.
According to an Inter Miami press release, the game marked the fourth stop on the team’s Champions Tour. Inter Miami defeated Independiente del Valle 2-1, with Messi and teammate Santiago Morales both scoring during the match.
