Lightning's free agent contract offer to Darren Raddysh revealed originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Darren Raddysh just had the best hockey season of his life, by far.

He timed it well, too. The Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman is heading for free agency.

The Bolts would like to keep him around, if possible, and so they're likely trying to negotiate a deal with him before the free agent period actually begins in July.

NHL.com's Dave McCarthy has reported that at least one offer has been made, writing this on X:

"My understanding is that the Tampa Bay Lightning’s opening offer to Darren Raddysh a few weeks ago was five years at $5.75M AAV. Will be interesting to see where this goes."

That works out to more than $26 million in total value.

By Raddysh's numbers in 2025-26, it'll have to be much more, but it comes down to how you factor in the entirety of his career.

The 30-year old defenseman had 70 points in 73 games this past season. That included 22 goals and 48 assists.

His previous career-highs were six goals, 31 assists and 37 points, all done in an equivalent 73 games in 2024-25.

Raddysh clearly took a big leap forward. It's also hard for a team to know whether he's going to stay at that level going forward or not.

On some level, it has to feel like an outlier season like that is pointing toward at least some regression to the mean.

So does Raddysh get a giant contract, or just a solid one?

That'll still be determined. Someone will likely offer Raddysh more than the Lightning's initial deal, but their bid may have risen in the time since McCarthy heard about that offer, too.

This will be a situation to monitor, for sure.
