The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl LX champions and today they will finally get the hardware to remember it by. On Thursday night, the Seahawks will quite literally get their hands on their Super Bowl rings in a private ceremony for the team. Obviously, team is excited to receive the crowning achievement of their careers (so far), but it especially the case for veteran defensive tackle Leonard Williams.
Williams spoke with NFL Network's Steve Wyche following Seattle's minicamp practice on Wednesday. The topic of Williams receiving his Super Bowl ring was brought up, and of course he had plenty to say:
"A long time coming" is a significant understatement from Williams. Originally the No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft for the New York Jets, Williams spent the first eight years of his career in the Big Apple between the Jets and the Giants. During this span, the man they call Big Cat experienced the postseason only one time during the 2022 season and it ended with a blowout loss in the Divisional Round.
Even his first two years in Seattle, which were 2023 and 2024, Williams missed out on postseason glory as the Seahawks were eliminated from playoff contention late in each campaign.
Finally, after 11 years in the National Football League, Williams' team not only found its way back to the playoffs, but managed to win it all. Big Cat can at long last call himself a World Champion, and tonight, he will get a fancy new ring as a reward for his efforts. If actor Chris Pratt's reaction is anything to go off (as he's already seen the rings) then Williams and his teammates are in for something truly special tonight.
