As the New York Knicks were feeling their way through the darkness that was the previous two decades, LeBron James has been viewed as the possible light at the end of the tunnel on more than one occasion when he has been a free agent.
But that union never happened, and it was almost certainly because the Knicks haven’t been a desirable team to play for throughout James’ career.
But things have changed drastically in recent years, and especially after this past season, when the Knicks won a title. In fact, even LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, said James would be going to New York if Jalen Brunson and Co. didn’t win a title.
“If the Knicks hadn’t have won, there wouldn’t even be no board. He’d be going to the Knicks,” Paul said.

Paul hasn’t completely ruled the Knicks out as a landing spot for James, but the New York Post’s Stefan Bondy is hearing from a source that a James-Knicks union is “not gonna happen.”
“Don’t count on LeBron James coming to the Knicks, per multiple sources. There was a ‘check in’ but no serious discussions and a union is very unlikely,” Bondy added.

New York still has its core intact and almost all of the most important bench players are still on the team, although the Knicks did lose Mitchell Robinson.

While James is still a great player, it would make no sense for New York to throw him into the starting lineup and potentially mess up the chemistry. The Knicks just need to run it back with their starting five, plain and simple.
Now, if LeBron is willing to come off the bench, we can have this conversation.
More words I never thought I’d utter.
As we already noted, Rich Paul has spoken about James’ free-agent bid on the Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul podcast and he named 10 teams in the hunt for LeBron.
The list includes the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and Knicks.
