LeBron James' time with the Los Angeles Lakers is over.

On Tuesday, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that James informed the Lakers he would decline his player option and become a free agent.

"LeBron James will continue his NBA career for the 2026-27 season and has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the franchise can move on without him because he will play elsewhere, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN," Charania wrote on X.

Lakers president Jeanie Buss confirmed the news with a message posted to the franchise's official X account. You can view it below.

James signed with Los Angeles in 2018 and led the Lakers to a championship two years later. He averaged 25.9 points across the eight campaigns.

Several rumors indicate James could sign with the Golden State Warriors.
