The Los Angeles Lakers' 2024-25 season concluded with a 103-96 defeat to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series, resulting in a 4-1 series loss. Despite the early postseason exit, LeBron James delivered a commendable performance in his 18th playoff appearance.

In Game 5, James contributed 22 points, while Luka Doncic led the team with 28 points and nine assists. However, their efforts were overshadowed by Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, who dominated with 27 points and 24 rebounds. The Lakers struggled with rebounding, being out-rebounded 54-37, and faced challenges with turnovers and inefficient shooting.

Throughout the series, James averaged 25.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game, shooting 48.9% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range.

Following the Game 5 loss, James addressed questions about his future, stating:

"It's a business," James said (via ESPN's Dave McMenamin). "So you don't know what the roster will look like next year besides the guys that [are] locked into contracts… I got a lot to think about myself. So I don't know what the roster will look like. I don't know where I stand right now."

These remarks led to speculation about his potential retirement or departure from the Lakers. However, James later clarified his comments, emphasizing he was contemplating his future in the NBA, not a move to another team.

"Just continuing to play, I don't know where I'm at," James told ESPN. "That's what that is. Not coming back to play here. Just playing, period."

James holds a $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season, with a decision deadline of June 29. How James handles that option remains to be seen, but he clarified it has already been decided a potential 23rd season will be with the Lakers.
