Draymond Green will return to the Golden State Warriors on a one-year, $27.7 million contract after he declined his player option earlier this offseason to give his team financial flexibility to lure NBA star LeBron James.
However, James ultimately decided to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million contract with a player option on the second season, which puts Green in a compromising situation, per ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater.
“Despite being eligible, there is not a no-trade clause in Draymond Green’s one-year contract, per source. It’s the same as the player option he gave up. Warriors would’ve given longer-term deal if they landed LeBron James, but didn’t,” Slater wrote on X.

“If (the Warriors) had gotten LeBron James, Draymond Green potentially was in line for a three-year deal at about $20 million per year,” Charania stated on NBA Today. “The Warriors struck out; now they bring Draymond Green back on the same deal. This becomes basically a one-year, prove-it type deal. It sets up a major season for Draymond Green.”

The Golden State Warriors were one of the frontrunners for LeBron James’ signature, but they ultimately struck out. During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Green shared his candid thoughts on James’ snub.
“We live in a day and age where everybody who doesn’t have anything to say have something to say. And so he’s gonna get crushed if he comes to the Warriors, ‘Ah man you went to team up with Steph,’ ‘Ah you had to go to them,’ (etc.). All the things that people would have said. And I think ultimately that weighed in on the decision a lot,” Green said.
“I don’t know that going to (the 76ers) is chasing a ring,” he continued. “You gotta go do the work to bring that to that place. So needless to say, I think there’s always this narrative of people trying to tear guys down, tear their legacies down, and I ultimately think that played a big role in the Warriors not landing LeBron.”
