League-winning manager hails Man Utd star for ‘fantastic season’ ahead of potential summer switch to his club

Hansi Flick has expressed his gratitude for Marcus Rashford’s efforts this season as he approaches the end of his loan spell.

Barcelona have just two fixtures remaining of their La Liga title-winning campaign before the players will turn their attention towards the World Cup.

Marcus Rashford: The state of play

Yet, for Rashford, his situation won’t be so straightforward heading into the summer.

The Blaugrana are still mulling over whether they will keep him beyond the term, as, to do so, they would have to shell out his £26 million buy option.

Rashford’s complete record for MUFC

Reports have suggested that Barcelona have been trying to haggle with Manchester United to agree on a lower fee, or even try to take Rashford on loan for another year before making a decision on signing him.

How Rashford has fared in 2025/2026

While the 28-year-old has thoroughly impressed over in Catalonia, he hasn’t been able to nail down a consistent starting role.

For example, of the 30 league appearances he’s made thus far, only 16 have come from the off. In the Champions League, Rashford made the starting XI five times in the 12 games Barcelona played, featuring a further six times as a substitute and being left on the bench for the last-16 second leg.

That being said, the fact that he’s returned a hugely impressive 14 goals and 14 assists in 2,442 minutes of action may prompt the Barcelona board into activating his buy clause.

Most recently, he added to his tally with a jaw-dropping free-kick in the El Clásico on Sunday evening, helping the hosts on their way to a 2-0 win that confirmed they would finish atop the table.

In doing so, Rashford also became the first Barça player to convert a free-kick against Real Madrid since Lionel Messi in 2012 – talk about being in esteemed company!

What Flick had to say about Rashford

When reacting to his side’s performance after the clash, Flick told reporters: “I appreciate Rashford very much.

“I think his season was fantastic. He has good numbers, and I am very grateful for that, and appreciate it greatly.”
