Lazio Negotiating With Brighton for Defender Who Could Arrive Immediately
Lazio and Brighton are reportedly discussing a move for Diego Coppola, who is now considered the Biancocelesti’s most viable option at the back.
Lazio Undergoing Defensive Overhaul
The Italian capital side has agreed to sell Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd. The former AC Milan captain should be replaced in the starting lineup by the left-footed Oliver Provstgaard. However, Lazio will need to resort to the market if they end up cashing in on Mario Gila. Napoli and Atalanta are currently battling it out for the Spaniard’s services.
Lazio Moving for Diego Coppola
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile have identified Coppola as a priority target and already received the green light from Gennaro Gattuso. While the manager would have preferred either Sergi Dominguez or Arnau Martinez, the Brighton defender’s arrival entails significant financial advantages.
Why Coppola is Lazio’s Priority
The Italian authorities have recently implemented a new regulation aimed at encouraging Serie A clubs to invest in young Italian players (U23), exempting their costs (wages and amortisation) from the accounts presented to the supervisory committee.
Therefore, the Roman newspaper believes Lazio would be able to sign Coppola (22) immediately. On the other hand, foreign profiles can only be bought when Lazio manage to unlock their market by offloading some of their current players, as the club has been restricted to a net-zero transfer campaign.
Lazio Negotiating Coppola Move With Brighton
The source adds that negotiations between Lazio and Brighton are currently underway. The Seagulls bought the Italian international from Hellas Verona last summer for circa €11 million, but his limited playing time prompted a January loan to Paris FC, where he cemented himself as a regular starter.
