Lazio Dealt Familiar Blow as Top Attacking Target Picks RC Lens

Lazio have apparently missed out on another important target, as Franjo Ivanovic has decided to join RC Lens.

The Biancocelesti’s quest to sign a new striker has seen them track a plethora of targets. But over the past 48 hours or so, Ivanovic emerged as the most viable solution, especially with Benfica reportedly agreeing to send him out on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, the recent reports reveal that the Croatian’s next destination won’t be Rome.

Franjo Ivanovic Chooses Lens Over Lazio​

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio have been pipped in the race for the 22-year-old striker by Lens, who will offer him the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season.

On the other hand, the Aquile have failed to qualify for Europe for the second year running, and they will play their home fixtures at a virtually empty Stadio Olimpico due to the ongoing fan protest against unpopular club president Claudio Lotito.

For his part, Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also agreed that Ivanovic’s move to Lazio has stalled as the player prefers to join the French club. But unlike Pedulla, he didn’t confirm the final outcome.

What Will Happen With Petar Ratkov​

Lazio were also negotiating with Dynamo Moscow, who have reportedly offered €18 million. So it remains to be seen if the negative developments on the Ivanovic track will affect the Serbian’s potential sale.

Lazio Fall Short in Another Transfer Race​

It should be noted that Ivanovic isn’t the first player that Lazio has missed out on this summer after making a concrete attempt. 20-year-old attacking midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen was reportedly keen to join the Italian capital, but the club failed to close a deal with Bayern Munich, so he ended up joining Deportivo La Coruña. They also couldn’t close deals for young defenders Sergi Dominguez and Noah Markmann.
