Latest Rays trade deadline prediction would guarantee Yankees win AL East originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees have to feel pretty good about how they've played throughout the season, though they still have a thorn in their side in the Tampa Bay Rays, who remain one of the best teams in Major League Baseball.
It's almost shocking that the Rays have played at this level to begin the season, but it really shouldn't surprise anybody too much. Tampa Bay, now 34-19, has proven over the past few years that it can win with the best of them when it matters most.
The last thing the Yankees want is for the Rays to make that blockbuster move at the trade deadline that could put them in a position to win a World Series. That's why Bleacher Report's latest prediction on what they're going to do at the deadline would be ideal for the Yankees.
“All things being equal, this is a team that could use another big outfield bat. The guess here is they are probably more likely to be in the rental market, rather than trying to land a star like Ketel Marte, Byron Buxton or Yordan Alvarez,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote.
In the event that Tampa Bay ended up with a player like Ketel Marte, Byron Buxton, or Yordan Alvarez, there's a very good chance it'd be in a very good spot to win a World Series.
Tampa Bay might just be missing that one guy, and any of those three could definitely put it over the top.
