An early Jacob Murphy cross from the right narrowly evaded both William Osula and Joelinton as the Magpies started with purpose.
But there's been no breakthrough yet as Lewis Hall makes his 100th appearance in black and white. He came into the starting XI along with Nick Woltemade, with Joe Willock and the injured Lewis Miley dropping out.
