The Chicago Bears are preparing for the 2025 NFL draft, which kicks off tonight in enemy territory -- Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Chicago is slated to have four picks in the first 75 selections through three rounds of this year's draft, which will help them close out what has been a busy and productive offseason. There's been plenty of rumors flying around the Bears online about a potential trade scenario, and although they've not made any moves just yet, there is plenty of intrigue around the team this year.
Coming into free agency this offseason, the Bears had some of the most salary cap space in the league, and they made the most of it by bringing in several key additions including center Drew Dalman, defenisve end Dayo Odeyingbo, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, as well as making trades for guards Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney. The busy offseason has changed the team's cap space drastically.
According to Over The Cap, the Bears currently have $10.59 million in available cap space, which puts them at the bottom of the league at 28th in available space. The team will need to get creative to have enough room to sign their rookie draft class, as well as any potential training camp and pre-season signings.
It's not ideal to come into the 2025 NFL draft with that little cap space, but after a busy offseason, the Bears front office will have their work cut out for them leading into Ben Johnson's first season as head coach. Their moves in free agency have been seen as a significant upgrade to the roster from last year, and now the draft will cap off a productive offseason.
