HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Langley Motor Speedway owner Bill Mullis expects Saturday’s Hampton Heat to be filled with fireworks.
“You can expect the best short-track racing with the best late model stock cars in the United States,” said Mullis, who’s preparing for the 18th annual heat. “It’s going to be something that you’ll want to see in person.”
Some of the heavy favorites for Saturday’s festivities hail right here from Hampton Roads, such as Brenden ‘Butterbean’ Queen and Connor Hall.
Hall, a Hampton native, has finished as the runner-up in the last three Hampton Heat’s. Butterbean will be racing for a record fourth Hampton Heat win.
The past few years have seen a lot of weather at Langley, and 2026 could be forecasted for more of the same, but Mullis said they’ll try to get the race in by any means, like they always do.
“Whether it’s last year or 10 years ago, the drivers pretty much know we’re going to get it in,” Mullis said. “When the drivers come here, they know if we can get the race in, it’s going to happen. Even if it finishes at 3 a.m.”
