Lancaster softball player Kendall Brown was selected the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Girls Athlete of the Week for May 25-31.
Brown hit three home runs and finished with five RBIs in a 14-5 win over Grove City in the Division I, Region 1 final. Brown had five hits in two regional games as Lancaster earned a second consecutive state tournament berth.
Brown received 52.3% of the vote and was followed by Westerville Central softball player Elliott Long, who received 40.5%, and Westerville Central softball player Lydia Miller (5.6%).
Also nominated were Westerville Central softball player Hannah Pullins and Danville softball player Addy Bocock.
Long, the runner-up, earned three postseason victories in five days, including a one-hit shutout of Anthony Wayne to advance to the Division II Final Four. Over the three-game span, she allowed only one earned run in 21 innings while striking out 30. She also broke the school record for the number of wins in a season with a pitching record of 23-1.
Miller drove in the game-winning run against Anthony Wayne to advance to the Division II Final Four. Over three postseason games, she batted .444 with a double and four RBIs.
In three postseason wins to advance to the Division II Final Four, Pullins batted .667 with an OPS of 1.589, a triple, and three stolen bases.
Bocock struck out 16, including the first 13 outs of the game, in a 1-0 win over New Madison Tri-Village 1-0 in the Division VI, Region 23 final. Bocock also struck out 13 in a 12-2 regional semifinal win over Ada.
The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.
Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week. The boys poll is live until 4 p.m. Fridays. The girls poll is live until 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Anyone can nominate an athlete by email to [email protected] or through X (formerly Twitter) tagging @BrianWhite13.
Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
