As Spain prepared for its biggest match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far, one of the loudest pregame moments came away from the pitch. With teenage superstar Lamine Yamal set to lead Spain into its Round of 32 showdown against Austria, his girlfriend, Inés García, drew plenty of attention on social media after sharing a game-day outfit that paid tribute to the Spanish winger.
The post quickly circulated as fans counted down to kickoff, adding another off-field storyline to one of the tournament's marquee knockout matches.
Inés García rocks Lamine Yamal jersey before Spain's World Cup clash
Ahead of Thursday's match, García shared photos of herself wearing a cropped Spain jersey featuring Yamal's No. 19 on the back.
She paired the shirt with loose-fitting dark pants and bright red shoes, completing a look that blended Spain's national colors with a casual streetwear style.
Alongside the photos, García wrote:
"Volviii"
The phrase translates roughly to "I'm back," suggesting she had returned to support Yamal and Spain in person as the knockout stage began. With millions of fans following every aspect of the World Cup, the post quickly generated attention as Spain supporters geared up for the match.
Yamal remains central to Spain's World Cup hopes
While García was making headlines off the field, Yamal once again found himself at the center of Spain's plans on it. The 18-year-old entered the Austria match having returned from injury earlier in the tournament and reclaimed his place in Luis de la Fuente's starting lineup.
Spain advanced to the knockout rounds after securing qualification from the group stage, and the defending world champions again leaned on one of the game's brightest young stars to unlock opposing defenses. Yamal started alongside Dani Olmo, Alejandro Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal as Spain looked to overcome an Austria side coached by Ralf Rangnick.

Spain eye another deep World Cup run
Despite not always producing their most fluent football during the tournament, Spain entered the Round of 32 among the favorites to lift the trophy once again. With Pedri controlling the midfield and Yamal providing creativity and pace on the wing, Spain possessed one of the tournament's most talented attacking groups.
As the knockout stage got underway, supporters were hoping Yamal would continue delivering on the field, while García's pregame show of support became one of the memorable moments leading into Spain's latest World Cup test.
